Workout Updates for the remainder of the Season

Good Evening Tribalistic Members,

Please note that as of this week, Tribalistic will only be offering a Wednesday evening cycling workout. This workout will continue to take place beginning at 6pm starting from the Assiniboine Park Duck Pond.

The Wednesday night workouts will continue to take place up until the week of the Pinawa Triathlon.

Although we will try our best to have a coach or board member available to facilitate the workout, there may be a week or two in which this will not be possible. If there is not an available person on site for the start time, please begin the ride to Headingley with the group.


The previously planned Tuesday night time trial workouts will now be taking place on your own (time and location). Due to the nature of the ride, a location such as Bird's Hill Park would be ideal to complete the following sets:

Tuesday July 26: Warm up 30mins progressively building to a Tempo effort. Main Set: 3x10minutes Staircase (3mins at Tempo, 3mins Just below Threshold, 3mins at Threshold, 1minute Very Hard), Recover with 5minutes of easy spinning. Warm down. Transition to a 5km run with the first 2km at your goal run pace, the final 3km at an Aerobic Pace.

Tuesday August 2nd: Warm up 30mins progressively building to a Tempo effort. Main Set: 4x10minutes Staircase (3mins at Tempo, 3mins Just below Threshold, 3mins at Threshold, 1minute Very Hard), Recover with 5minutes of easy spinning. Warm down. Transition to a 6km run with the first 3km at your goal run pace, the final 3km at an Aerobic Pace.

Tuesday August 9th: Warm up 30mins progressively building to a Tempo effort. Main Set: 6x5minutes at Threshold (Sprint/Olympic Race Pace), Recover with 3 minutes of easy spinning. Warm down. Transition to a 6km run with the first 4km at your goal run pace, the final 2km at an Aerobic Pace.

Tuesday August 16th: Final Workout before the last race on the Triathlon MB Schedule: Warm up 20mins progressively building to a Tempo effort. Main Set: 3-4x5minutes at Threshold (Sprint/Olympic Race Pace), Recover with 3 minutes of easy spinning. Warm down. Transition to a 4km run with the first 2km at your goal run pace, the final 2km at an Aerobic Pace.

TRIBE SLOWTWITCHER

Tribalistic Member Nicole Walker cracked the Top 10 overall and grabbed a spot on Slowtwitch!



Here is a great shot of Nicole enjoying the chilly swim in Lake Michigan the day before the race. Unfortunately due to a lightning storm in the area on race morning the swim was cancelled and the bike was shortened to 31miles (from 56miles).

SUMMER SCHEDULE

As always at this time of year, we'll be paring down to two workouts a week.

With poor attendance at Thursday's run workouts, these will be dropped, so that our week focuses on the Tuesday and Wednesday night workouts, as follows:


Tuesday Brick - starting at 6pm from 581 Waverley Street

This workout will focus on individual TT efforts on the bike, with the option to run off the bike, while your bike is safely locked away.  Rides will generally be 40-60km in length, with run options up to and over 5k for those interested.


Wednesday Bike - starting at 6pm from the Assiniboine Park Duck Pond

No reason to change anything about our most popular workout.  We'll continue to offer group riding skills and over/under aerobic training on rides of around 50km in length.

(Note - due to a conflict for both coaches, this Wednesday will be an uncoached workout, but we encourage Tribe members to still meet up and get their mid-week miles in.)

Did Someone Say Ice Cream?!

Join us for the last ride of June on Wednesday June 29th! We will begin at 6pm in Assiniboine Park at the Duck Pond. Be sure to tuck a $5 bill in your jersey pocket, and plan on ruining your dinner!

We will do the usual group ride out towards Headingley with some single paceline work with maybe a breakaway or two! We will stop in that wonderful little town that we always ride through (two abreast...) and support the local economy with the purchase of some delightfully frozen dairy delights! (Ice Cream), before beginning the ride back into the city.

Please also note the following summer schedule updates:

1. Always check the training schedule calendar in the summer. We will try very hard to keep the schedule consistent through the summer, but life comes up and schedules change.
2. With racing, vacations and travel there will be a reduced summer schedule (as per usual) and no weekend workouts.
3. We're hoping to concentrate the summer workouts and get as many members out mid week as possible, so plan for the following:

Tuesday and Wednesday evenings beginning at 6pm from the Assiniboine Park Duck Pond.

Tuesday evening will focus on some longer individual time trial type efforts. This is a great workout to focus on race pace and above riding, while knowing that there is a group looking out for you.

Wednesday evening will continue to be the group ride. Come out to work on your bike handling, drafting and group riding skills. Shorts bursts and sprints will be the focus on these evenings.

As triathletes, there is always the option to run off any of the rides, so leave your running shoes by the door so when you step in, you can quickly transition to a run.

Open water swim workouts

Open Water Swim workouts are being scheduled for Friday June 17th and 24th at birds hill park.
Start time is 6 am at the east beach parking lot. If the parking lot is closed we will meet at the parking lot on North drive across from the riding stables and then walk down together.
Remember your wetsuits, goggles, caps and body glide as well as warm clothing for before and after.
Workouts will last about an hour.

June Training Schedule

Now that the spring schedule and the duathlons are behind us, it's time for summer training and racing!

Racing is approaching quickly!

June 11-12: Triple Threat Triathlon

June 19: Manitoba Marathon

June 25-26: St. Malo Multisport Weekend

Tribalistic Triathlon Team training schedule for the month of June is now updated on the calendar.

Tuesday evenings: Meeting at 6pm at the Assiniboine Park Duck Pond. Rides will head west towards Headingley, and then St. FX. On the return route, riders will have the option to continue around the perimeter and enter the city via McGillivray or remain on Roblin. Focus of the workouts will be time trial efforts. Be prepared to ride in your aerobars focusing on individual race efforts and paces. Group will have pre planned meeting points along the route. This workout can easily be turned into a brick workout, so plan to run following!

Wednesday evenings: Meeting at 6pm at the Assiniboine Park Duck Pond. This will be a road bike specific ride focused on group riding dynamics and skills. Great practice if your goal is to be racing draft legal events.

Thursday evenings: Meeting at 6pm at the Assiniboine Park Formal Garden loop. This is a run specific workout. Focus is on race specificity this time of the year. Plan on running with some pace specificity and durations in preparation for your next race, or season "A" race.
